Family in Need
Typically, the holiday season is a popular time for community members to donate to organizations that support those in need.
Members of this committee work with Oswego county agencies and schools to determine family need throughout the year.”
But what happens to these families at the start of the school year?
Or during the summer break?
Or when they are left without a home due to a fire?
Our committee offers support throughout the year.
Members of this committee work with Oswego county agencies and schools to determine family need throughout the year. Food, clothing, toys and household items are donated by the members or are purchased with funds allocated for this purpose. Many times it is a combination of both.
In 2016, 9 families were given assistance of which there were approximately 30 children, all residing in Oswego, Hannibal and New Haven. The families had a variety of needs which we met by purchasing gift cards (grocery, restaurant, gas), clothing, household and food items.
A significant amount of resources went to aid multiple families who lost everything in home/apartment fires.
Support from Children’s Board members is provided each year to Catholic Charities Santa’s Workshop. Items donated include gift cards, bath and body kits, hair products, hoodies, sweaters, makeup, games and toys. In 2016 the event was held on the SUNY Oswego campus.
