Our History – Providing services for more than 80 years!
The Children’s Board was initially established in 1938 as the governing board of the Oswego Children’s Home to provide assistance to the community’s orphaned children. When the Children’s Home closed in 1957, the Board evolved to continue to meet the needs of children in Oswego County.
The Children’s Board is comprised of volunteers who commit to work on specific projects designed to improve the lives of children in the greater Oswego community. The volunteer board meets monthly, from September through May, on the 3rd Tuesday of the month, to provide steering to the committees designated for each project and to monitor funds raised to support the programs of the organization.
The membership includes a diverse representation of backgrounds and professions. Each member decides how much time he or she can dedicate and affiliate with a project or committee based on his or her personal interests. Interested members of the community are encouraged to attend meetings of the board to learn more about our activities. You may also contact a current member for additional information. We are very proud to be part of an organization that is so dedicated to the children and families of Oswego County for over 80 years!
It is an honor to work alongside members who also dedicate so much of their own time to help other community members in need. Money raised is used towards free children’s performances, various events including Family Skate Night, as well as awarding scholarships and aiding families in need to name a few. It is gratifying to know that we are able to help members of our community when they need it the most.
